Dare #1 “I Dare you to have a daily devotion”

Day One – Monday March 28th

Theme: Come as you are…

A.  Opening prayer

God, I thank you that I can come to you, just as I am; just as I am right now in this moment.  Help me to trust that I am worthy in your eyes – that you will accept me right now in spite of all my mistakes and weaknesses.  Thank you that you are excited that I am giving you this time right now.  Please speak to me.  Amen.

 

B. Scripture: Psalm 95: 1-8a

 

The New International Version

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

3 For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.

6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.

Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts

 

 

The Message

 

Come, let’s shout praises to God, raise the roof for the Rock who saved us!
Let’s march into his presence singing praises,
lifting the rafters with our hymns!
3-5 And why? Because God is the best,
High King over all the gods.
In one hand he holds deep caves and caverns,
in the other hand grasps the high mountains.
He made Ocean—he owns it!
His hands sculpted Earth!
6-7 So come, let us worship: bow before him,
on your knees before God, who made us!
Oh yes, he’s our God,
and we’re the people he pastures, the flock he feeds.

7-11 Drop everything and listen, listen as he speaks:
“Don’t turn a deaf ear”

 

C.  Deep thoughts

God may make himself known to you through the life of someone who, for you, is an ambassador for God, in whom you can see the beauty and truth and the love of God; anyone from St. Paul and the apostles through all the centuries to the present day, the great assembly of the saints and lovers of God.  It may be that there is someone who loves you so deeply that you dare to believe that God’s love for you could be possible after all.  Sometimes it is through tragedy or serious illness that God speaks to our hearts and we know him for the first time.  There is no limit to the ways in which God may make himself known.  At every turn in our lives there can be a meeting place with God.

How our hearts should sing with joy and thanksgiving!  We have only to want him now at this moment – and he is there, wanting us, longing to welcome us, to forgive us all that has gone before that has separated us from him.  “If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23).  God makes his home in you.  They are not empty words.  It is true.  “Make your home in me, as I make mine in you.”  This is prayer.  Isn’t’ this the answer to all our yearning, our searching, our anguish, to all the longing, the incompleteness of our lives and of our loving?  Until we dwell in him and allow him to dwell in us we shall be strangers to peace.

I dare you to…tell at least one person today that they can come to you if they need someone to talk to or just to listen to what is going on in their life.  You may not have all (or any) of the answers, but you can at least listen and care for them.

Thank you Jesus that you came for me.  That you reached out of eternity, into humanity, to find me.  Me!  Help me to remember that you want my attention for more than just these last ten minutes today; but you want my heart, mind and body focused on you all day today.  Amen!
